When I encounter such a machine I fetch the restore media and all the drivers are automagically installed. Those "clean installs" are often trips through the swamp or a dive into a tar pit of support.

hi everyone,
I've got an old HP Pavilion Zd8000 but am having a problem with my video card. I am running Windows XP.
It first started when I noticed that after the XP logo, the laptop screen would go black. I would be able to run the computer in safe mode with its low resolution.
The laptop came with an ATI Mobility Radeon x600 video card. I tried to update the drivers for it / uninstall and reinstall it, but go no results.
My computer was due for formatting anyway, so I gave it a clean format and noticed, the laptop would get past the windows logo this time, but it would run at a low resolution of 1280x800. I then decided to install the drivers for the video card, but now when I boot up, it goes to a white screen.
Can someone help me out? Is this a problem with the drivers I'm using, or is the video card dead? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
