Video card noise

Feb 16, 2004 7:16AM PST

I have a Hercules 3D Prophet II GeForce 2 GTS 32mb it has a fan on it I recently got a new fan for my processor with LED?s which was a lot quieter then my first CPU fan I had but when changing to a new CPU fan I noticed my video card fan makes a lot of noise more of a vibration almost sounds like the fan is getting stuck but its not I can almost hear the fan blades move is there something wrong with my video card and what can I do to make the noise a more smooth sound I determined that this was the cause by removing the video card and then powering up and noticed the noise I described above were gone.

These fans are FRUs(field replaceable units), they are cheap enough to replace not fix.

Most of these little fans are not worth playing with.

However if you want to then remove the fan and with a small brush and a vac clean out all the gunk.

Next remove the end seal and apply a drop of light oil to the bearing.

It might be easier to take the fan to some place like Radio Shack, set it on the counter and say "I WANT ONE OF THESE.

Unless it is something fancy about 8 bucks.
