Video card hot - NVIDIA GeForce GT 545

Jun 21, 2014 11:48PM PDT

Hello,

I have my pc almost 2 years now. Recently, it started crashing while playing games.

Turns out the temperature of my video card NVIDIA GeForce GT 545 gets real high, +100 degrees celcius. When it gets this high, the pc starts crashing.

I measured the temperature with HWMonitor.
Website NVIDIA GeForce GT 545 says: Maximum GPU Temperature (in C) 100 C.

Is there anything I can do to reduce the temperature? Or is the video card broken? Is there a way to check this?

Any help is appreciated,

thank you.

As Bob always suggests....try using it with side off with a

fan blowing toward the PC.

May be the case you need additional case fans to remove the heat inside. In addition, you might also make sure the GPU (and CPU) cooler are free of dust and working full time.

See what that does and let us know.

Additional fixes remove the GPU HS Fan, remove the old thermal paste and add/apply new paste.

There are also aftermarket HS Fans for GPUs.

First things first and let us know.

Hi,

I dusted the pc and put a fan besides it. Now the temperature stays around 70 degrees. Hoping it stays that way. A bit annoying, a fan blowing all the time, but better than crashes.

Next pc will get a bigger case and a big fan on the gpu. The fan on this card is very small.

Thanks for the replies.

inside the case ... the CPU HS Fan, the GPU HS Fan, the case fans, and the PSU's are clear of dust....you might try closing it up to see how the TEMPs go. Keep in mind there are better case fans, CPU HS Fans and even better GPU HS fans so the options are endless....including a bigger case with more places for fans...including bigger fans. Lots of places, specialty shops, carry endless fan choices for fans ... like

Keep us posted ...at least you know what it takes to keep it running now while you research other solutions.

Thanks to Bob too !

That was a hot GPU even when new.

If this was mine I'd rip the cover off and point a fan at it until I had time to work on the usual canned air and new heatsink compound.
