Video Card

Mar 15, 2004 7:36PM PST

OS\ XP Pro
I know my video card is only 3mb but is it possible to free up space on it or are you suppose to. When we do upgrade next we plan on going to at least a 64.

ok shift

if you are using the card for games then completely forget about the 3mb, you can't really do much else with that.

depending on how much you have to spend a good mid range card that will cover everything at the moment is the Geforce FX 5900XT (there is a version with -VTD MyVivo 128mb at the end) thats the best one that i know.
for a high end card you can't go wrong with the radeon 9800 pro (XT recommended)

hope this helps.

I know what the benefits of a better video card will do, but my system is to old for an upgrade. What I want to know is there anything that I can do with the video card I have to make it work maybe a little bit better. (ex. like we clean cookies to free up space)

Well, there is such a thing as "Overclocking" the Video Card. Gamers have been doing that for several years. What card are you talking about?

You can post in the GameSpot forum and ask for instructions on overclocking, but the kids there may laugh if it is a old card, and might suggest you dust the cobwebs off 3 $20 bills and get a 128MB Nvidia GeForce FX5200.

If what you have is really a 3MB card it must be very old.

If you can ID the card make/model you might try to visit the makers site and check for drivers and bios updates.

Do not expect much as the maker will only support a product for a limited amount of time.

I do not know what issues your having but you might want to check that your color settings are set to 16 bit and not 32 bit.
