Pick up a DVD recorder such as you see at http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=DR-RE12A
With this unit I could connect your existing camera to the DVD recorder (use the camcorder as the camera...) and press a record button.
I have that unit and it can get some 3+ hours at the next to highest number of hours per DVD and may do more.
Quality of such has been very nice.

Posting here to see if I can get some suggestions. Here's the story. I teach Public Speaking at the local community college. We videotape all of the students speeches so they can take their tape home, watch their speech, and do a self analaysis of their presentation. We currently use an RCA 1/2" video camera (regular size VCR tapes). We've got money to buy a couple of new cameras, but are not sure what to purchase...we are seeing a technology changover currently...several students have commented on not owning VCRs (DVD players only), and several of my online students are now submitting their speeches on CD. SO.....I see no reason to buy a dinosaur (1/2" format), but which way should I go? Key is the ability for students to watch their speeches at home. Thanks, in advance, for any input...
