Resolved Question

video call problem with Skype

Sep 17, 2011 12:47PM PDT

I am trying to place video calls from an iPad 2 to a laptop PC with a Logitech c310 webcam. During the call I have the iPad in landscape position. When the call begins the incoming picture on the laptop is in landscape mode, which is what I want. After 20 seconds or so the picture spontaneously rotates to portrait mode, which is what I don't want. I can't find a way to change the picture orientation back to landscape mode. I called Apple support and, after trying a few things on the iPad, they said the problem must be with Skype. Does anyone have a solution to this? Thanks.

I'd head to the Skype forums fast.

Skype forum no help so far

The first thing I did was post on Skype. So far there have been no responses. Their forums are not as active as CNET and I felt I would have a better chance getting a response here.

Next idea. Call the Apple store near you.

It's a common enough app and maybe they know.

But it sounds like an app bug.

I have a wild guess.

I mean it is really wild.

This iPad 2, does it have an electronic gryoscope, the type that re-orients displays depending which way round you are holding it?

If so I am just wondering that you establish a connection with the laptop, then put the iPad down and it sends a signal to the laptop to change the display orientation of the Skype window.

I know, highly unlikely.
