Question

Viber Report

Sep 11, 2017 8:03AM PDT

Hello community. I would like to report Viber about a deletion of my messages.
I' ve allready messaged them, but there is no solution. Do you know at which authority could I file a report?

Answer
I took a quick read of their "policies."

It's a long read at https://www.viber.com/terms/ but it appears that loss or deletion is not a violation of the agreements.

Even here, moderators can remove messages that are spam, border on spam and for other reasons. Technical issues like failing servers, bugs in the code can result in message loss.

-> In other words, you don't have a leg to stand on. Try another messaging service?

I want to report them, their terms dont mean anything to me.

I can't guess what report them means.

You've reported them here so you have that done. If you feel there is a legal issue you head to your lawyer but the terms are such that I doubt you'll get far.

That out of the way, you didn't reveal much about your deleted content. There's a lot of content that will just vanish. Here some content is automatically removed and we get folk upset about that. These folk also don't want to hear about the terms of use.

Anyway, I need an authority to decide who's fault is this.
Does anybody know the authority that is responsible for such reports?

Since it was your action and your data.

You are responsible. As to the report, you have done a report in this space so you are free to post your complaint anywhere you wish.

You should tell up front that you uninstalled the app and the data is lost. Otherwise folk may think it's the other issue about spam.

Look, I have my account at viber desktop and at smartphone. I uninstalled for 2 days my Viber smartphone, and all my history at desktop vanished.
I am economically damaged by that.
I need to report them, since they didnt ask me before deleting my desktop's messages.

I've seen that. It's a known thing.

It's a known thing. You uninstall and content can vanish. Nothing new going on here. Nothing nefarious.

-> YOU did this.

That out of the way and I'm sure your mad now but now you know that you must backup this stuff.

That's the real issue. Backup and restore. No one will do this for you. YOU must protect your stuff.

Here's a interview with a rather famous person about YOUR STUFF IN THE CLOUD.
https://www.cnet.com/news/woz-the-cloud-is-a-nightmare/

"Steve Wozniak says he foresees nightmares caused by data stored in remote servers."

There are folk that don't want to backup and come out guns blazing when they didn't save their stuff.

You will disagree.

Since you uninstalled and didn't have backups, you are responsible.

Nothing at the Viber site told me they were responsible for your content, messages, etc.

Yes, of course, but your opinion or mine, are not important.

The authority will decide.

You are the authority here.

It's your data, you must keep it safe.

Keep us apprised of how your legal actions go. Do you have a web blog about this?

That's some judge. Consult your lawyer what the best way is to ..... To what, by the way? Get your data back? Get their excuses? Get a compensation?

Mostly a compenstation, since they did not ask me if I wanted my conversation deleted.

I do not have any blog. Anyway, thanks. Its a lawyer's issue probably.
