They will come with the software to run them. You plug your VCR into the capture card inputs. Open the software that came with the card, read the instructions, and save the VHS movies to your hard drive. You then burn them to DVD media.
Easy.
And you can also connect a TV antenna, satellite, or cable to the card and you have a Tivo.
Another option is a USB capture card. I have this one http://www.hauppauge.com/html/usb_data.htm and do exactly what you are wanting to do.

I have a Pent IV 2.4 ghz, with 750m mem. My operation system is Windows XP (Home).I purchased an HP DVD740i DL recorder & installed it. I also have 100's of VHS cassettes which I want to copy over to DVD. I want to know what hardware, software, etc I still need to get & install to transfer these VHS's to DVD. I'm very new at this & realy need help.
