I would use the usual DVD recorder and press play on the VHS and record on the DVD recorder and walk away for the time required. The result at that point after we finalize the media on the DVD recorder is the digitized VHS tape.
Done and without the usual 4 times the hours required. In other words I find that one hour of video requires about 4 hours on the computer to get one hour of DVD output. The DVD recorder brings it back to a 1 to 1 system.

Hi, I have an unused but working Mac OS X 10.4.11, 933MHz processor, 2MB L3 cache, 1.2GB SDRAM with 250 GB hard disk that I would like to use to transfer my old VHS family films to DVD. Ive read about Roxio Easy VHS to DVD but the system requierments are more than I have. Is there another (not too expensive) alternative for this???
Thanks for the help!
