Resolved Question

VGA to HDMI?

Oct 30, 2011 10:51AM PDT

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 and I want to be able to connect it to my lcd tv, but the laptop only has vga outputs. The tv has hdmi and rgb inputs but no vga so I can't do vga to vga. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated

"They should have a disclaimer letting you know that VGA to HDMI is not
possible simply through a cable. VGA is an analog output, whereas HDMI
is a digital output. Without some kind of converter between the two it
doesn't work. So a cable that has VGA on one end and HDMI on the other
end will not do what you think it will do.

I'm sure there must be some use for this cable, but I don't know
what it is. Don't buy it if you're trying to convert VGA signal to HDMI
signal."

Well written!

OK, what does work?

http://aluratek.com/vga-to-hdmi-1080p-adapter-with-audio is worth a look.

BEWARE THERE WILL BE SOME LAG. If you have a gamer in the family, they will not want this.

Seems like a safe bet. Amazon returns are easy if you don't like it.

A basic VGA/HDMI adapter will not give you audio, you would have to tap off of the audio input for that.
