Question

VGA to HDMI

Apr 7, 2016 12:33PM PDT

I am having many issues trying to hook a VGA output to the HDMI port on a TV. I have tried VGA to HDMI converters from eBay and Best Buy. Going from both a laptop and desktop. It was Computer >> HDMI Adapter >> TV. Never got any display on the television or HDMI Monitor. I know that VGA is analog and HDMI is digital & conversion is needed. Even the Best Buy Geek Squad was stumped. I have seen youtube video's but they never work. FYI: This VGA output is from Windows 7 machines.

those don't work. HDMI is digital and VGA is analog. No S video on TV available, nor on the computer? Does either have S video?

Or if desktop, add an HDMI card.

Good idea on the S jack

Good idea. I used to call them RCA jacks, but there probably are some S jacks. I could probably try a vga to s jack adapter cheaper than finding a HDMI card that is inexpensive.

I never found VGA to S jacks to work either.

Now there are a few video cards with VGA that had composite outputs and there were adapters for those. And thus was born a market for those adapters that folk buy and find don't work.

The sad part of the story is that folk won't believe so they buy cable after cable and this market lives on.
