VGA to Component Adapter. Will I lose picture quality?

Feb 22, 2006 12:32AM PST

Hi Everyone,
I have a VGA output on my laptop and a DVI port on the projector. What i would like to do is connect the laptop to the my reciever, then connect the reciever to the projector. I already have a component -> DVI cable going from my reciever to the projector, but apparantly i need a VGA -> component CONVERTER to connect the laptop to the reciever. I looked up some of these on various website and saw the go for about $120 and up. Is this the right device i need to be able to watch movies and surf the net? will I be sacrificing any picture quality with this CONVERTER? Thanks everyone.

More info on the projector??? Is this a front LCD projector??? Does it have VGA input?? VGA and component are analog, but not the same analog. DVI is digital, but it can also have analog, confused yet? ATI has VGA to component converter. There are VGA to DVI converters. john

ok, the projector is not an LCD projector, just a regular one i hang from the ceiling. It has a DVI input port, no VGA input. My laptop is VGA output. i want to run it through my audio/video reciever so i have to go from VGA->component->DVI. What will i need to convert signals? will i lose picture quality?

Then you will need to get a the VGA to component adapter.
If it's a good one then there should be no quality loss. John
