Question

VGA not detected

Jun 5, 2018 3:36PM PDT

I have a brand new BenQ monitor that has a VGA, DVI and an HDMI port. I also have an older computer with only VGA and DVI ports. The computer stand I personally made is blocking the DVI port so I figured I’d just use my VGA port to TV. But it says it does not detect it on my monitor. My cable is brand new and so is my monitor so I know it not that. Is my VGA port on my motherboard broken or could it be something that doesn’t support it in the computer. I have no way to see my srcreen or hear any sound. I haven’t tried to use a DVI port either yet because I would have to order one. Please let me know what could the issue with detecting this

VGA has no sound.

So we don't expect any sound on the TV with a VGA connection.

The most common problems are:
1. Dead PC. You need to reveal more about when the PC worked.
2. Many Samsungs do not allow use of VGA ports. Here's a video about that:

Would a VGA that is plugged into my computer be able to have sound if I bought a VGA to DVI or HDMI connecter?

No, you can't carry sound signals over a VGA cable. You'll have to do with the audio output on your PC if you want to hear something.

I assume you tested that it doesn't work either if you boot in Safe Mode (then it's a setting, most likely) and installed the .inf-file if the monitor came with it (often it's not necessary, sometimes it is).

Try another VGA monitor to see if it's the brand new monitor that is defective or something (hardware, software, setting) in the PC needs to be fixed.

So my monitor that has speakers can not have sound with the VGA attached? So if I have a vga to dvi plug and have my dvi cable hook up to my monitor, will I have sound? Since it’s a dvi cable

No, DVI has no sound. HDMI has sound + audio. You have to use the audio input of your monitor linked to the audio output of the PC. But that doesn't make much sense if you have to image on the monitor.

Take the monitor out of the stand and try a dvi cable.

How did a tv get into this mix?

If you have another monitor try it.

If you have access to another pc try the new monitor on it.
