Question

Very weird problem with internet on my pc

Sep 6, 2018 12:05PM PDT

I have a 60mbps internet service from xfinity, and everything was fine at first. I was always getting about 70mbps on my pc, laptop, and phone. Recently, my pc slowed down to about 1mbps second while using the 802.11ac band and 11 when using the 802.11n band. However, sitting at the exact same spot I still get 60-70mbps on my laptop using the 802.11ac band. I have an xfinity XB3 router and using a TP-Link AC1300 dual band adapter. I have read that the xb3 is a pos, should I consider getting a different one? If so, any suggestions?

Change the wireless settings to 802.11ac only

The same thing happened to in our household too. Our router is Linksys. We have two networks one for 2.4GHz and one for 5GHz. Though, our settings were used to be Wi-Fi mode "mixed" for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

Since this is 802.11ac router, I use 5GHz on my iMac and get around 110Mbps on 100Mbps speed internet.

However, my brother in the next room is getting about 2Mbps in this Dell laptop. He uses 802.11n most of the time. He comes to me complaining why he's internet speed is way slower than mine. Then I took a look at the Wi-Fi settings and changed my 5GHz to 802.11ac only. Now, he gets about 80~90 + Mbps.
