Very Weird Lock Ups. Hardware related?

Dec 28, 2004 3:39PM PST

I Have a Dell 8400. This system is only 6 mounts old and has the top of the line stuff. 3GHz 1gig of ddr2 running win xp pro. Recently I have been having several full blown lock ups where the computer is not responsive at all, Ctrl+ALT+DEL dose not even work. Powering down and rebooting is the only option. Doing simple tasks such as closing a program or viewing small pictures, things that are not at all stressing things for this computer seem to be the causing the recurring problem. I play games like far cry that take more system recourses and this dose not happen. Can someone help? I don?t know if its hardware related or has something to do with windows or the registry, or even if it?s a virus I?m lost. Something is telling me this is hardware related, I'm not shure though.

Boot your system to safe mode and see if the lock ups continue. If they do not run all these scans

If the system still locks up go on line to the Mnf of your H/D. Download and run the H/D diagnostic utility.

Look inside the case at the capactors. The tops of the capactors should be flat not crowned.

Have you contacted Dell?
