You found an incompatible combo.

Your board, slocket and such are either misconfigured, the bios doesn't support that CPU or you have incompatible parts. Slockets are hit or miss solutions. No one I know will tell you it will always work out.

Why didn't you shop around for a Slot 1 CPU?

As indicated in the link...

I provided you the board simply does not support a multiplier combination that would work (although you might manage to UNDER CLOCK the chip).

Celerons above 433 Mhz are simply not supported by the board or BIOS--even the 433 REQUIRES an updated BIOS which fortunately is still available.

This link was accessible from the previous one (and vice versa) and although you will have to download a few PDF files you will find that the configuration utility simply DOESN'T SUPPORT your 566. If you have seen someone on some forum claiming otherwise you NEED to ask that person for specific instructions which would likely include soldering.

Additionally, as Bob has related SLOT 1 Adapters may or may not work as all were not created equally.

Good luck in your endeavor but if you insist on using the motherboard I strongly suggest following Bob's advice and investing in an inexpensive PII within the range the motherboard can support. Here is a site you can locate appropriate PII or Celeron at http://www.starmicro.net/

Intel AL440LX
Jan 1, 2005 9:46AM PST

As I recall, one might have been able to get to Celeron 466 with a standard slot 1 adapter for that Intel board. To go higher one needed a special adapter for the Celerons 533 - 766. Powerleap was probably the most popular followed by the Evertech unit. From the Evertech site, Performa SE 533MHz is based on the earlier Intel Celeron processor, utilizing enhanced instructions and MMX. This product is also designed as a specific solution for motherboards including the Intel 440LX Atlanta motherboard.
Notice the word "specific" in there. You will also need Intels latest bios.
Hope this helps,
DS

i have sold all my kit now except for k6-2 400 overclocked and overvolted to 490 something, dont care if it cooks as have k6-3 550 comeing. this is my 6 yr old daughters pc. i have got a pIII 1gig comeing soon for me. i am writing this now on pII 300 machine which i will give to my nephews, possibly fitted with 333 mhz and overclocked with "softfsb" by h.oda (google it), softfsb adjusts fsb speed in windows using software and works well on my pc upto 76.7 any higher and it crashes.
