Im not sure where to post the replies once the thread get too long. How could i forget The Soprano's! Yes thats one of my all time favourites too..I don't know why but i have a liking for the gangster drama's & films. And how could i forget about some of the classic British comedies too like Black Adder & Faulty Tower's,they were brilliant. There were many really good British comedies on tv in the 70's & 80's when i was growing up,but these days i tend to veer towards the American humour & style. And of course you now have our Hugh Laurie over there in the US,i quite like him in House.
I have been subject to Coronation Street ever since i opened my eyes! We were subjected to it at every available opportunity. So where are you at this moment in time as regards to Coronation Street? And if you don't mind me asking, what do you like about it?

just what I recall English writers' judgment of the Yorkshire personality type. Good to have around in the midst of chaos.

Lots of us share your impression of the age.

for all communities, not just Yorkshire folk. I like to think it even crosses the class divide along with the religious & race divide. But you only tend to see that when it is truly a disaster.

Don't ask about The Shield here on SE, if you're a fan, since the latest season just ended a few weeks ago in the States and you said the new season was just starting for you in England.

The most shocking surprise on the shield this season was when Mackey found out about...

Wink

I have noticed in the US that there is a 4 to 5 month delay from the start of one series in either country when the same series is shared across the ocean.

cheers

The last episode ended where Shane kindly dropped a grenade into lems lunch, the swine! I was gutted, not hysterical but i brought a tear to my eye,the poor bloke. It was different when the shoe was on the other foot & Mackey was gunning for Shane. I can't wait till tomorrow!
So your telling me Mackey finds out about shanes exploits? Oh Dear Sad

Very Sad Story?
Jun 27, 2007 3:33PM PDT

Grim, There is an American Legion Member in Abington, MA that had a horrifying story of a Navy veteran that was trapped in an engine room on a U.S. ship that was torpedoed during WW2, and the rescue team had to amputate his foot off to free him or let him drown.
Years later the rescuer and that sailor met. The sailor thanked the rescuer for saving his life.
Strange but true listening to these WW2 veterans talk about it. Seems like water off a duck's back and to hear them talk about their experience in War. These men are in their 80's today.
Not many of them left living today.

The emergency crews in that town of Hull could have done the same thing to save that man's life as those sailors did back in WW2 at sea. At least the man would be alive today.

(The link is to a low-graphics page which the BBC furnishes for all major stories. Loads quicker on dialup.)

Note also that, like 9/11, disaster agencies overlapped each other, and that they've had several years to change that since a similar disaster. Wonder how NYC agencies are doing in this regard.
