That was my exact thought!
Jun 25, 2007 8:32AM PDT

Well not the scuba mask, but i thought why not get some hose pipe or something,or at the very least take it in turns to go down & give him mouth to mouth oxygen..
Maybe when they release more details we might be more aware of what actually happened..

I can't understand what went wrong when all the emergency services were there and for so long. I can't believe that not one person thought of getting some hose pipe from the back garden, thats why im sceptical that is was as simple as we are implying. There is usually some kind of follow up on the news as to what actually happened.
As ever though,we are completely caught out in this country when we unexpectedly experience extreme weather (although i would hardly call it extreme) It has rained heavily for nearly a month over here. The river's and beck's have burst their banks & the drains cannot cope. But as always intervention by the local council etc is too little too late.
As soon as we get a little sun there will be a hosepipe ban! Its the norm over here..

Perhaps you can keep us updated on this sad, sad story.

During the 90's there was a little girl found after a mud slide in central or south America. She was found buried in a mud hole up to her neck. Despite days of rescue attempts she died of shock and heart failure before she could be freed. Perhaps this was a similar situation?

I do imagine there is more to the story than the news is letting on and if not? Then it is more tragic.

But as yet there hasn't been any details released on the lunchtime news, apart from a young boy was sadly also swept away into the river,as was an elderly gentleman.
I think as JP Bill has stated, its probably nothing to do with drowning.
I must admit though after seeing the news today it is a lot worse than i mistakenly thought earlier..

Evening Angeline..
Jun 26, 2007 4:36AM PDT

Yes your right Sheffield is in Yorkshire, about 25 miles away. South Yorkshire has had it really bad. I live in West Yorkshire where parts are badly flooded but as yet not as bad as other parts of Yorkshire(im sure the people at Agbrigg only 2 miles away would disagree) So far all the problems we have had is a broken garden umbrella & my tomato plants are looking a bit iffy,so i consider myself extremely lucky at this point and glad that i live on a slight hill. Although the River Calder & canal are only app a mile away from us. There is more to come aswell, its like that Stephen King film, sorry i can't remember what its called.

Thankyou for your concern Angeline..

A lot of times I could explain it off by mentioning Carroll O'Conner - Archie Bunker - but as time has gone by, most young cash register jockeys haven't a clue who he was... so when they ask why I have my wifes credit card I just shrug it off and show them my ID.

No
What happened is when i joined Cnet i was tired of my usual user name of lilliecat (im a cat lover & my cats name is lillie) Plus i wanted something a little more 'techi' sounding. So i thought for a minute & up popped jonny2000,jonny being my son's name & jonny2000 is what my ex used to be called by co-workers because he talked a lot? I never did quite get that one..And i may be wrong here but isn't jonny2000 the cab driver from the film Total Recall? Anyway i used to be a cab driver years back,so it just seemed appropriate at the time.

I'm sure il be able to handle it Steve! I wish my jokes were as tame as cat jokes, but having said that, after what i saw on the news this week about the fur trade & China, any jokes about that would be very sad,but im all for free speech even if it is hard to handle.

1. I'll take that as "F". Happy
2. Yeah, "lilliecat" is much too cutsie for us heavyweights here on SE. (And don't call me "Dougie".)
3. Sorry about the divorce; been there myself.
4. Don't recall(!) the name, but there was a hyper cab driver; believe he turned out to be a stooge for the bad guys ... who included [Bad] Ahnold ... who became [Good] Ahnold ... makes my head hurt. Anyway, I love Sharon Stone even with her knickers on.

End on a serious note: I hope your weather turns around soon. FWIW I sent a sympathy email to the Hull council website, but it got bounced back.

Yeh i thought it was a bit too cutsie & damsel in distress type of name,if you know what i mean?
No 3 sucks but what the heck, life goes on!
That cab driver from what i recall, was in uniform & looked like a ventriloquists dummy, with a constant smile. Oh & he was an android/robot or the like. Its been a while since iv watched it now.
And as for Sharron Stone, well i only pray that i look that good at her age! ha

The rain stayed away today thankfully, although im not sure about elsewhere as i haven't had chance to see or hear the news today, which is unusual for me but iv been really busy today. I here through the vine that the looters are out now. Simply scum!

Bad cat jokes, I'll spare you for now
Jun 27, 2007 11:26AM PDT

Looks like I can't respond under your post. The forum software has it's limitations. I'm not an animal hater but, since two cats came with my marriage long ago, I couldn't resist collecting a few bad jokes just to needle my wife. She's still with me. Cat fanciers are unique...and far more wacky than dog lovers... in my experience anyway. Some you can only tease by keeping a bit of distance between you. Happy Hey, MODS, can you get Lee to see if the programmers can make a smiley with a black eye? Grin

It sounds like you've had some strange experiences with cat & dog owners? I would love to have a dog & a few cats but i don't have the time for a dog, they take a lot more looking after than cats. If i had a bit more land,a bit more time & a bit more money i would be a dog owner for sure.
Lillie though,i have to say,is the most beautiful cat. She's only one year old & she's been raised like you would look after & raise a baby. (she was rescued very young) Im sure she thinks she is the youngest child in our household & that she's human & im her mum! I know it sounds daft & pathetic, but she really is our little darling!

Im a big fan of Law & Order,CSI (all of them),Ally Mcbeal,My name is Earl, gosh the list is endless,oh & nip tuck. And my favourite is The Shield. The new series starts this Friday & i can't wait! There are a few English programs i like but they few & far between. One of my old time favourite's is Red Dwarf if you've ever watched it? Wacky, you either love it or hate it,a bit like Marmite..

Hi Jane

Norris and Rita are headed for their "free holiday" in Vienna
Charlie Stubbs and Maria just had a wild weekend
Shelly told Charlie he's her babys daddy.
Claire is in the hospital for mental help
Fred and Bev are planning the wedding
Steve is buying the Rovers.
Danny has a new unwanted partner at Underworlds.

And on and on.

I like the fact they have so many storylines, and each character seems like they were made for the part.

I saw a Coronation Street Special and the characters were being themselves and they were totally different.

I think they are very good actors.

When the thread gets too long just reply to the original post with the subject line "Are you a Coronation Street Fan"

Well as you know im not an avid fan,but i can tell you that things are about to get very twisted & interesting!
I agree about them being good actor's,and your right they really do fit into their parts really well. But some are bound for that big old Corry in the sky! Sad

Looters: Not the same anymore. :-(
Jun 27, 2007 1:53PM PDT

My view of Yorkshiremen- learned at a distance, to be sure- is that you're on the phlegmatic side, if anything. (Always excepting that Roses thing.) Up side of that is you're supposed to be ultra-reliable in a pinch; rallying 'round and all that. But I have heard bad things about the younger generation, esp. in London and the big port cities.

The minster and local churches there attract professional visitors from around the world: The shire's parish records tend to be very complete back to Domesday Book, so the historians have a field day. Good for learning causes of death, marriage ages, etc. (And I believe York was never Blitzed.)

- Collapse -
Phlegmatic! Really?
Jun 27, 2007 8:35PM PDT

Thats a bit like saying my view of southerner's in the US is that they are all hillbillies & rednecks! Actually though,i think thats what the southerners of England think about us northerners too,so your not alone Sad
I would agree with you about the rallying round & all that, but to be honest with you i think its dying out with the generations is that trait. It was like that 40 years ago,its more dog eat dog now, from my experience anyway. We have totally lost our identity through diversity, drugs and the older generations dying off (for lack of a better way of putting it) This is my personal opinion anyway. People over here are very highly stressed & depressed & don't have the time or energy to rally together like they used to do. Im old school as i can still remember when we were a close community,so i really miss the way we were. And i wholeheartedly love & respect the elderly, who i must add get a raw deal in this day & age.
The bad things you have heard about the younger generations is probably all true, but its not just the cities, its totally widespread im afraid.
