vertical interference bar on Panasonic Plasma TH42PW5

Dec 17, 2005 12:39AM PST

I have a 42 inch Panasonic Plasma TV (TH42PW5). It's about 4 years old. Recently, a vertical bar (about 1.5 inches) has appeared about 6 inches from the left side of the screen. It is there regardless of what source is feeding the TV, and stays in the same place even when changing aspect modes.
It sometimes is a posterized version of the underlying image, sometimes thin multicolored vertical stripes, and sometimes solid black.
Does anyone know what might be causing this? I have contacted Panasonic, and they only told me to contact my local service center. Before doing so, however, I'd like to try and have some information about the problem, so that I might have an idea of what it will take (time and money) to fix it.
