Veronica's Wikipedia Article is Up For Deletion!

May 17, 2006 12:24PM PDT

Due to it being a "Vanity Page". What they say makes sense, but i still am sad, and unsure. People should talk about it in the deletion discussion for it. the link to her page is:

Bizarre
May 17, 2006 12:55PM PDT

V is as much a podcasting celebrity as Leo Laporte. Just because she doesn't have the soccer mom recognition of Tom Cruise doesn't mean that her Wikipedia entry is only a vanity page.

I got your back V

Added to it a bit

Took a break from my essay to add a bit more. Have to say that writing about V is a lot more fun than Much Ado About Nothing Happy

oh no!!

thank you guys for trying to save it!

Maybe it will help if...

Although the last paragraph is the best part, it might seem kind of trivial and silly for their consideration. So you might have to dull it up a bit to sound more like an IMDB description if you want to keep it on there.

Just a suggestion.

Not Wikipedia's Fault
May 18, 2006 2:22AM PDT

Nah, not wikipedia that's at fault, its just BOLFAN.

*sigh*

My feelings are kind of hurt that "Bol"fan is the one who put it up for review, but it's true that it was lacking in any actual content about myself. It seems that people have made it a lot more relevant, which I'm really psyched about (and flattered that anyone would take the time to do that!)

hopefully they'll keep it up!

Don't worry V, I'll save it!
May 18, 2006 2:40AM PDT

As a registered Wiki-member, I'll vote to keep it. There are some people on the site who will just submit anything for deletion, just because they don't personally like it, even if the page had nothing offensive to cite it for. If it goes unnoticed, then usually these people win, but if there's enough attention gathered for it, like now, then it won't succeed. Happy

Your page has been completely revised
May 18, 2006 4:26AM PDT

Hi Veronica, it's LifeStar again. FYI, I've edited your page on Wiki to improve its quality for the general Wiki public. It's been revised and hopefully better organized. I hope you approve.

As with the deletion vote, it probably won't be deleted. However, to the rest of the BOL community, only registered users who have contributed in the past, will have any weight and say whether it will be deleted or not. From what I can tell, it won't as I've also added my vote to the keep side. Hopefully this will be resolved rather quickly.

thank you!

you did a great job!

Perfect
May 18, 2006 9:38AM PDT

Now it reads as most of the Wikipedia entires do. It looks quite professional and should remain there.

I do love Wikipedia and it is the first internet site to which I ever donated money to keep it going. It's sort of like the NPR of the internet except that everybody who cares can contribute.

I rarely do a search for information on there and have it come back with nothing useful.

Added My Two Cents
May 18, 2006 10:21AM PDT

As a registered member of Wikipedia, I added my two cents to the keep side. While I don't remember what was on it when I first paid a visit to the entry, it looks great now. And as I pointed out in my vote, any new up and comer in anything that makes it onto Wikipedia, could be considered a vanity page.

I don't see any reason for it to be deleted.

I'll try to organize the page
May 18, 2006 2:46AM PDT

Looking at it, it looks like it's not BOLFAN who submitted it for deletion, but an anomyIP user on Wiki. The submission was done today by a user at address 67.183.219.243. Whoever this person is, I've already submitted my vote to keep the page. ONLY REGISTERED users of wiki can vote on the page as our votes are the only ones that count for this kind of submission.

On another note, I'll try to work on the page today when I have some spare time. Please, if you do decide to edit it(this is to everyone), please help organize it better. Wiki-users do not like disorganized articles that have more an appearance of fluff than a real encyclopedia look to it. Thanks.

while you're there
May 18, 2006 6:32AM PDT

Since then, she has hosted videos from Maker Faire 2006 and a new series on CNet titled "Out of the Box," showcasing user-submitted videos of gadgets being disassembled right out of the box.

disassembled? brand new "things" being taken apart?

no!

that's not the point of the video series - i don't think we made that clear enough. the point of the series is you initial impression with a product as you unwrap it. However, he took it to the next level ("in this video, he did just that and MORE") by taking apart the product.

we absolutely do not expect everyone to take apart their new gear!

Yeah, I definitely didn't catch on.. I thought the point was to see what was on the inside of gadgets. Oh well, the page was edited!

wiki has some issues they need to work on
May 18, 2006 3:00AM PDT

of their times i have contacted any wiki admins they have been rude and almost abusive to me.

They really need to do some re-thinking re their site as it makes me unhappy.

Wiki for BOL Content
May 18, 2006 6:46AM PDT

I can see why Veronica's article is up for deletion, quotes that she likes bacon are fluff, but if informative material is added, than it is an entry worth keeping.

I did nominate the entry for Buzz Report for deletion since there it does seem to be a vanity entry. Her own article is sufficient enough to get the point across that she writes a column and does a video show.

I also eliminated quotes from the BOL entry, since quotes that are random do not serve a purpose unless they support a related topic in the article. Wiki's are not meant to be tools for fanboys.

not to be deleted
May 18, 2006 11:47AM PDT

I think that it should instead be merged into the Molly Wood article, i deleted the delete part, and added a merge part.

Dude, you're not suppose to delete the DELETE tag...
May 18, 2006 1:01PM PDT

Please do not do that again. Wiki-admins frown very heavily on that kind of action. The policy wikipedia has set up is that once an article has been officially listed for deletion, that tag on the article must remain for a total of 5 DAYS! It's to safe-guard biases on either outcome. If a majority of the votes are for "DELETE", then once you remove the tag, those voters who would want the page to remain would be unaware that the page is up for deletion in the first place!

Secondly, since you did it as an anonIP address, the admins will also view that action as an act of vandalism because the majority of vandal attacks on Wiki articles are done by unregistered users.

(NT) (NT) Why does the Buzz Report Need It's Own Wiki
May 18, 2006 1:29PM PDT

No, ur wrong...
May 18, 2006 1:33PM PDT

It wasn't a delete tag on the Buzz Report Site, it was a promotion for consideration of deletion or something. It said to delete the tag if you disagreed. Now you added a real delete tag, screwing up the whole system. You should check what was there before. Good going.

- Collapse -
I fixed it
May 18, 2006 1:43PM PDT

You cannnot delete tags that have been contested in the Proposed Deletion category. I put up an Article for deletion tag so people can discuss it. I did add info to Molly Wood's wiki entry, but if useful info can be added to the Buzz Report wiki, please do so, but please do not post junk,

Doesn't look like it's up for deletion anymore!
May 18, 2006 12:00PM PDT

I just visited the page, and there isn't a box there anymore saying that the page is up for deletion. Looks like it worked, and it's there to stay.
