Resolved Question

Verizon voice commercials on Cnet Forum

Sep 27, 2014 12:03PM PDT

Only on this forum, do I hear voice commercials in the background. I hope I am not the only one that hears it and that it is not the Astromenda that I thought was gone.

I didn't have any unknowns that I could find and on cnet I was hearing the music from the commercials. Not now but I did uninstall adobe flash and reinstall it and I no longer hear the commercials or music so i don't know what it was but it only was on cnet.

shylaugh, Flash Player is the culprit!!!!
Sep 28, 2014 7:17AM PDT

Thank you so much......what a relief....you made my day!!!
No more music -- but have proof it was definitely connected with Adobe Flash Player because as I write this post, a messsage appeared at the bottom of this page:

"This website wants to install the following add-on Flash Player from Adobe Systems Incorporated.......INSTALL"
HOW ABOUT THAT CNET? This caused me a lot of grief. Sad

Removing Flash Player message from forum
Sep 29, 2014 1:02AM PDT

How do I stop the nagging message from Adobe Flash Player that keeps appearing when I log on to forum -- "This website wants to install the following add-on Flash Player from Adobe Systems incorporated.....INSTALL"? I would like to have it removed before I do a fresh install from their website.

I'm going with no.

No as in that message could be in the wed site you are visiting.

I don't understand the need to remove that message prior to installing Flash from Adobe.

I want it off before I reinstall Flash Player

Just felt I would have a better chance of not getting the return of the nightmarish music.....I see shylaugh has it again, but I do not know if he gets the nagging message at the bottom of the page.

Sorry but I didn't explain it well.
Sep 29, 2014 3:01AM PDT

It's correct behavior as it stands. I'm sure there are folk that need a long explanation of why but let's see if anyone will write that out here.

That is, it's not a flaw but an annoyance. One could install a Flash Blocker?

I reinstalled Flash Player.....
Sep 29, 2014 9:25PM PDT

....because I was unable to open too many personal videos on my FB, and, of course, the yellow banner to install Flash Player is gone from the bottom of this page and here comes the monsterous, horrible, annoying and miserable Verizon commercial (are you listening Verizon?). My keyboard is dragging as I write this....hope it is temporary and will disappear with a reboot.

that only you and one other has these audio ads.
You should do as Bob suggests and run Moderator Grif's clean-up techniques .
Until you do the work, the discussion will be at a standstill

Answer
The thing is, one infection installs it's buddies.
Sep 28, 2014 5:25AM PDT

Once a machine is infected it will often install other bad things.

Try Grif's advice and if that fails, head to Bleepingcomputer to use their deeper cleaning system and support.

I use firefox but
Sep 29, 2014 7:02AM PDT

I use firefox but under plugins I had always activate flash but changed it to ask to activate. If I am at a web site and want to watch I just say to activate. That is working for me as the auto play music tests my patience (I don't have much) I will figure it out in internet explorer. This never used to happen so ?? only a couple of web sites. Sandra
