Verizon USB720 modem

by jlmarta / April 4, 2008 9:02 AM PDT

I'm hoping someone else has already 'been there, done that' with regard to increasing signal strength to the modem by plugging in an aerial as was recommended to me by Verizon's telephone tech support guy. Under the little fold-up antenna there's a small rubber plug about 1/4" square which, when removed, reveals a very small jack where an aerial wire can be plugged in - - that is, if you can find a jack that fits it. The support guy said if Verizon didn't have one, possibly Radio Shack might.

Verizon didn't have any in my area and neither did Radio Shack and when I asked Verizon what they would cost if they DID have one they told me $30. Now, I don't know about you, but to me, $30 for a miniature jack and 6 or 8 feet of wire seems a bit steep.

I've jury-rigged an aerial to plug into the modem and it does, indeed, increase the signal strength. The only problem is that the wire going into the modem is so tiny that the least little movement causes it to lose contact and then the signal drops.

Has anyone else experienced this situation and, if so, were you able to find a jack that will fir the modem? If so, where?

Any help would be appreciated.

WOW!! That was fast! I checked out that website and by the looks of it, the adapter cable will work for me. And, let's face it, $13 is a heckuva lot better than $30.

Thanks very much. I appreciate your input.
