verizon service with samsung phone in england

i have a co worker friend going to England..London area for 10 days
will he be able to use his (verizon carrier in new york state) samsung model SCHA650 cell phone for phone calls or should he leave it home

The Samsung a650 is CDMA only, and I don't believe England is using CDMA at this time. Unless you have games on it and want to play them, then leave the phone at home because you otherwise will have the No Service message. I have this phone and have owned it a year now. Great phone from my experience for the basics, but the phone is only good for calls made in the USA & Canada.

England (United Kingdom) operates on GSM, the Verizon phone will be unusable.
