Verizon Razr Vibe and Ring

Dec 11, 2005 9:10AM PST

Just bought my razr yesterday and in the manual it says you can set the ringer to ring and vibrate...went to the store and they said it wasn't possible...does anyone know if motorola will have a software update so that this can be done....it's ideal when i can have it vibrate and ring like my other phones i've had!

Any problem with your razr?
Dec 11, 2005 11:02AM PST

I purchased a razr myself from Verizon. I was wondering if you're having any problems with it? The time on the razr stalls (intermittently time doesn't update itself to the current time). I went in twice to exchange it for a new razr, and even my third razr has that problem. Am I alone in this?

Vibe & ring
Dec 12, 2005 1:18AM PST

The Samsung phone I had before my upgrade to razr also had this option of virbrating initially then going into the ringing mode. Unfortunately, I (and the sales people at Verizon) haven't been able to figure out how this can be done on the razr. It would be great to have the option on the razr.

There is supposed to be a S/W or F/W update coming to add this in as well as fix other glitches.

Vibe & Ring

Uknown on update. It was mentioned on another forum. However, if your tech inclined you can visit Howard forums (and others; Cell Phone Forum, Motomodders) and follow directions to enable it. You have to download some applications, get a USB cable, and use your PC to do the job.

Or just wait and see what VZW will do. I'm sure it'll be a network update, if there is one, that can be done with *228 and select program. Of course you can take into the store as well.

S/W= software

F/W= firmware

The Motorola user interface (UI) is under the VZW UI, with some some tweaking, you can restore the Moto UI and some of its features or disable/modify some of the VZW functions. However, if your not comfortable with doing it, I wouldn't.

re: Vibe & Ring

This omission is a HUGE problem for me because I am hearing impaired, and having the vibe on with the ringer basically doubles my chances of knowing I have a call.

That being said, I just got off the phone with a Verizon representative who seemed VERY confident there would be a firmware update in the near future. He told me that "just about every phone we sell gets updates every two or three months. And this phone is brand new, so it's very likely there will be an update soon."

Well, I tend to agree with him, being around technology for over 2/3 of my life, I know he's right about this.

Don't expect the update until after the new year, but if you're like me, you'll be calling Verizon once a week to find out if the update is in.

Time not updating
Dec 16, 2005 8:53AM PST

I have the same problem with the time not updating. It seems I need to ''wake up'' the phone before it will refresh the time. Annoying.
I called Verizon and they say it's a software problem.

Time not updating
Dec 16, 2005 1:46PM PST

My phone had the same problem - one earlier post said the problem was resolved by turning the phone off and back on. Another said to press *228 and send (then I chose option 1). I don't know which, but one of the suggestions worked, because the time is now working fine.

Verizon Razr time problem
Jan 6, 2006 1:18AM PST

Thank you for posting this. I picked up my phone yesterday and noticed the time display problem today. I called Verizon and was told that Motorola knew about this software problem, and my options were to either wait for a software update from Motorola or take the phone back to the store and see if they could offer me another phone that didn't have that problem.

I found your post, and followed the suggestion of turning the phone off and back on, followed by *228 and option 1. Like you said, I don't know which action solved the problem, or if it was a combination, but in any case, the time display is current now.

I called Verizon back to let them know, since obviously they are unaware of any method of fixing the issue.

My only other question about the display - is there a way to set it so date/time, etc. is always visible? I have a Verizon LG phone, and even when the display is not backlit, you can read it. The Razr just goes dark after a few seconds, even when I turned off the "save battery" option. Any suggestions?

Thanks again!

Do you keep your phone near anything magnetic? I know two people (one with an LG and another with a Motorol) who kept their phones in a belt holster with a magnetic closure. They experienced problems with the time display. When they got rid of the holster, the problem disappeared.

Verizon Charging and Ringing/Vibrate Problem
Jan 6, 2006 4:02AM PST

I too have a verizon Razr and found another issuse that is not posted on this discussion. I noticed that when I charge my phone the backlighting for the LCD's (main and mini) does not turn off. In my opinion this is a quality issue since the lifetime of the LCD and backlighting LED's are directly related to how long they are ON.
I also hate the fact that the Verizon Razr does not offer a ring and vibrate feature. I know for a fact that the Cingular version does ring and vibrate simultaneously.

verizon sucks

Not sure about verizons razr but the cingular razr can do both but i also hear the verizon razr is a piece of garbage which is why they are not advertising it

Not a particularly productive post...What have you heard about the Razr? I have it and I think the phone is great (other than then inability to Vibrate and Ring). Also, it appears that there is no way to plug in a wired earpiece, which is sometimes more convenient and less power hungry than the bluetooth accessories.

Verizon's Razr is PURE PLASTIC
Jan 7, 2006 5:34AM PST

Just got back from my local verizon store (1-7-06) and the Razr is TOTALLY PLASTIC. The cingular version has mostly metal exterior pieces, except for the lowest, thickest portion immediately below the key pad.

I know this has nothing at all to do with performance and function, but it was enough to have me reconsider it just on aesthetics. For some reason it just does not appeal to me as a purely plastic phone. I like the metal exterior. Maybe I will switch to T-Mobile or Cingular (especially since Verizon gives me no incentive to sign back up for a two year contract). And the price they are charging for a purely plastic phone is an insult as well, especially since the metal version is much cheaper, and sometimes FREE with other carriers.

They also had ZERO info on the Palm 700, and referred me to the website (which also has ZERO info). Way to go, Verizon!

Just my two cents.

Sorry - Verizon's Razr is definitely Aluminum not plastic

I don't know what you looked at but my Verizon Razr definitely has an aluminum shell - not plastic!
