Verizon phones....Which one?

Oct 9, 2004 9:54AM PDT

I want to get a new Verizon cell phone. From what I've heard, Verizon is the best service provider in the Alanta area. I was looking at the samsung a670 and the audiovoxx 9900 which are both camera phones. And if i dont go with a camera phone how is the samsung a650 or the LG4500. Any advice?! thanks

I can give you my experience on the Samsung SCH-a650. It's a tri-mode phone, so you'll have analog when you travel in an area where there is little to no digital signal. The phone has good reception, even in areas that other phones consider dead spots. Good color display, just as long as you're not in bright light, especially sunlight. sound quality is good. The caller ID however doesn't show the name of a phone number if it's programmed in the phonebook as 7 digits rather than 10 digits. That's a drawback that I didn't face with the Kyocera 2235 and Motorola 120c. No external display, but at least the phone has a setting to allow manual answering the phone. While the retractable antenna is good, it's not good if it has to be replaced. Unlike many phones that have antenna bases that srew on and off, this phone must be taken apart to replace the antenna. Battery life is good, unless you'r on the phone a lot, but it charges up quickly, but the phone must be off in order for it to charge quickly. This phone is best for someone who wants a flip phone, but not lots of frills. The only frills this phone has are tri-mode, color display, internet, text messaging, Get it Now for downloading games and ringtones.

First of all you have to decide whether you want an 'all-digital' or 'tri-mode' phone. All digital will work only on digital areas, whereas, tri-mode will pick up analog signal where digital is not available.
Go to the coverage map of verizon and look at the areas you will be traveling to. If it is all RED, then go digital, if the areas you go to include PINK, then get a tri-mode phone.
I have the Samsung a650 and I am very happy with it. I don't need a camera phone. The CDM 9900 is tri-mode (I believe) and it is also good from what I hear.
On the digital side, I heard very good things about Samsung a670 and also LG VX6000 (both with camera).
I know the Samsung a670 has one feature that I think it is terrific. You can voice dial any number from your phonebook without training the phone to recognize your voice. I am not sure if any other phone has that feature.
One thing I wish my phone had (the Samsing a650) is an external LCD screen to see the incoming calls.
Good luck.

i would say tri-mode phones are always handy. I would go for samsung a650, but the audiovox 9900 is the newest phone so far. I dont remember if its tri-mode though.
