Verizon DSL with Yahoo is a disaster

by steve07758 / January 7, 2006 3:42 AM PST

Upgraded from VZ dial-up to DSL. Was assured that I could keep my existing email address. Was forced to choose Yahoo or MSN for my email (why is still a mystery).

Nearly FOUR weeks later and I am still without email. They read some nice scripts to me about ''how important I am' and ''how seriously they take the situation'' Then after 3 or 4 transfers (explaining again and again what the problem is) get to the ''Yahoo desk'' and they assure me that a trouble ticket is out and there's nothing more they can do. ''Be patient - could take 24 - 48 hours'' Well its been about 300 hours and not yet fixed.

Stay away from VZ DSL until they assume responsibility for making it work.

Good DSL, Bad Premium Features
by fribbitz / January 10, 2006 4:22 AM PST

I must agree with you on the premium features.

I found the DSL an improvement over the original DSL for residential. I am a VZ tech, and most speed we could get for a customer in 2002 was 640, and in my own tests at home it was the same, but I now have at least 768. For $14.99, very good.

Premium features are a disaster. I tried a hundred times to install the Yahoo for DSL, no luck. Had two online sessions with techs, no luck. Trouble ticket got cancelled twice. I must say, if this is what my customers are getting for support, I'm really disappointed. Finally installed MSN, and it went off without a hitch. But like most MS products, it seems "ugly and bloated".

I guess I'll have to live with it.

Problems with Verizon Yahoo
by joel2345 / January 16, 2006 1:51 AM PST

Have to agree. Once I switched my existing Yahoo mail account to Verizon, I lost the ability to attach files to outgoing emails. Calls to tech support at Verizon and Yahoo each pointed the finger at the other.

Sounds more like a security issue.
by chuckieu / January 16, 2006 2:39 AM PST

Since attachments are a known security problem, Verizon/Yahoo mail could be automatically configured to not allow them. Check your settings. Could be as simple as that. chuck
