using Verizon DSL.
I have a Westell 6100 modem/router from Verizon. The three laptops connect to the Westell 6100 using a Netgear router, you can use any popular type, preferably a g router. I have no problems and you can secure the router so only your laptops can connect.
(Wireless router are not secure and can still be hacked into.)
Securing it cuts down on the hacking.
Only problem with Verizon DSL is that the Westell 6100 uses the same ip address as the Wireless Router. You will need to change the ip address of the wireless router. It rather simple to do.
I am using Verizon DSL up 768 kb and I am now connected at 737.7kb.
Since I switched, I will NEVER go back to dial-up again.
Hope this helps.
Verizon DSL has just become available in my area. I currently have dial up and no other options here in a rural area.
My question is: they have 3 options at sign up. I like the 3mb servce with a free wireless router and modem for around $30.00 per month.
Can I network a PC and a Mac with the router that Verizon supplies or would I have to buy my own.
I have got a Dell for my kids and an iMac for my wife and myself for Christmas this year. (And I know absolutely nothing about networking or DSL. I have had dialup at home forever and at my work, we call the "tech guy" for any problems that we have.
