verizon dsl account not loading in Compaq Win ME

by madhatrose / September 16, 2008 5:31 AM PDT

I just restored my compaq computer to "from the factory." Now I have to re enter my dsl provider, However the installation will not finish the set up. It circles around the account set up after loading 52% then gives an error message http 404. After calling verizon they say the trouble is with my computer not them. The D link loaded just fine. The dsl modem is working fine. I had yahoo originally when I got verizon over a year ago but now they say verizon no longer supports yahoo. The thing is, I can go online through the internet explorer but have no email or verizon link. Don't ask me how that's happening.

I also lost the driver that installed my Lexmark 5400 printer to windows ME and I can't find another driver online, except websights that promise they have all the drivers to do that and more but you have to have windows 2000 to get the information which I don't. Any help on how to locate this driver that lexmark no longer provides would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry if I don't get back soon but when I do I hope you tell what d link product was used.

Good luck on the printer driver.

It is a Westall 6100. When I called Verizon they didn't indicate that I needed any different or updated install software.

The Westell FAQ is at

Ok, you never have to use the setup CD for this DSL ROUTER. All I've ever had to to is to point the browser at this DSL ROUTER and fill in the screen such as

Read more at the first link and set it up without that CD. Skip down to the section "Standard Default Mode Connection (no separate router present)
Modem's built in PPPoE client used."

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
