That is something you can test in the store. Let me comment that my new droid is almost perfect except when I have the volume near the top during a call. I think the speaker hits its limit and the cone hits something.
BUT THAT IS SOLVED when I use my bluetooth headset.
My droid has version 2.2 which seems very nice. Let me reveal I write and maintain apps for PalmOS, Windows Mobile as well as some desktop and embedded systems so I'm eager to get going on our droid apps.
My droid is a HTC and I can bet that the speaker issue is there on that one. The Motorola droids feel a little better but take the test call at the stores then leave and ponder.
Things that are important to me:
I go online for facebook, weather, sports, email but most important to me is call quality, after all I'm buying a phone.
