vcr problems with my SONY HANDYCAM DCR-TRV250 digital 8

Mar 14, 2007 5:54PM PDT

Ive had this camera since my freshman year of college and now I am in my senior year. I bought this camera from best buy and although it was awhile ago and this is obviously not the best brand I figured it would last me until at least 2010. Anyway thing is I have babied this thing since day one and honestly haven't even used it that much. When I put a tape in to record it acts like it is recording and then like 5 secs into it it eratically beeps, gives me an error message (C1-C2? or something like that, i don't want to put another tape in for fear it won't work anymore because it was really annoying trying to get out the original) and stops "threading" or "spooling" the tape. Some wierd electronics dude i met in my town says he can prolly fix it for under a hundred.. I am in college so I am really poor but I HAVE TO start making movies again or I am going to go nuts! my questions are:
1. Can I fix it myself if i have some sweet tools?
2. If not should I buy a new camera or have this electronics dude give it a try?

PS If anyone thinks they might know what is wrong and whatnot I will put a tape inside to try and read the error message.

Try this

According to the TRV... manual "C" type errors are fixable by the user. There is no specific reference to C1? but many of these errors can be overcome by activating the Reset button found on the function panel behind the LCD screen. To do the reset just press the button with the power on with a pencil tip or such like. Hope this helps you.

i have the exact probmlem with my camcorder, i have the same thing, i put any tape in now - 4 seconds, nothing, wont do anything. the problens are;

-wont record anything;
-says eject even on new tape; (yes it is the right tape)
-a hand in quotes blinks on the bottom left
-C:31:22 takes the place of what should be the time.
-beeps like crazy.

i tried unplugging it, resetting it, trying other tapes (that i have used [with that camera] before) and i get the same thing.

is thier anything that me and mart can do to fix this.
