Go here to download XP driver.

Select OTHER PRODUCTS in the download menu.
Then select which VANTAS model you have.

Also, try other USB ports. Uusally best if they are not cabled inside the case, but are hard ports on the mainboard. The ones next to the Keyboard and Mouse
are the most likely to work best.

Also some printer monitoring software (HP) may interfere, as well as antivirus as you install.

Make sure you have admin rights when installing.

Last. this is not a new scanner, and even though many companies write new drivers, many are not compatible.

I dumped my Microtek E6 when going to XP even though there are XP drivers. Some made it work and I could not.

I like my new scanner way better. You will too most likely.

I did download from microtek & try the driver that was supposed to work with XP. Will try the uninstall and reinstall in safe mode and cross fingers. Thanks

How did you install the scanner ? Install driver first with the scanner off, then switch on scanner, boot up computer and let Windows detect it ? Or manual install via Control Panel>Scanner and Camera>Add Scanner ? BTW, is your scanner found at the Scanner-Camera folder and at Device Manager (with the scanner powered on) ? Do you mind sharing brand and model of scanner ?
