Go Control Panel->System and Maintenance->Administrative Tools->Computer Management->Local Users and Groups->Users...see if the account is listed. (There you'll find the disabled accounts listed as well.) If it is, right-click and delete. If not, just delete "Valued Customer" from C:\Users as there's nothing else to do.

P.S. To burn those discs look for the Recovery CD/DVD Creator in the Start Menu. You'll need them if you ever have to repair or reinstall Windows.
Well, I got the update download problem fixed and the last remaing minor problem is this:
If I go to Users in my local disk C: I have a Valued Customer folder that was evidently created when I first started using my new HP dv6604cl computer with Vista installed. It contains some things I first copied from my Dell desktop with Windows XP.
If I look at Users in the control panel, there is no such user listed so I can't remove it.
Does anyone have an idea how to get rid of it?
By the way, this computer came with a couple sheets of paper explaining why there was nothing in the box but the computer, remote, and AC power supply. All it said to do was make recovery DVD's before doing anything else.
