VAIO Tap 20 - how to install cd programs?

Jan 5, 2014 3:12AM PST

I just bought a Tap 20 all-n-one desktop computer. I'm puzzled to realize that it does not have cd drive! I did not think to ask, as it is referred to "desktop" rather than tablet, ultrabook, etc.

Now my question is how do I install programs from cd, such as printer/scanner programs, modem driver and interface, and all other programs, games,...

Does copying the cd to usb drive and installing from there work?
Btw, it's Windows 8.

I do appreciate any help and insights. Thanks in advance...

Usually copying CD to flash drive works, not always though

If what you have on a CD is on a single CD, copying to a flash drive almost always works for me, but if you have something that requires more than one disc, it usually fails when it comes time to insert the 2nd disc. However, as has already been said, you really ought to invest $30 in an external CD/DVD drive because there're just too many times when you are going to need one, and they aren't that expensive.

Sometimes you get apps from the web.

In the case of my printers, I get them from the maker's web site.

But external DVDRW drives are about 30 bucks so if you need that, you add it. I'm a bit surprised no one offered it during the sales process.
