Question

Vaio SVS1511C5E miracast

Dec 22, 2014 4:13AM PST

I have a Vaio SVS1511C5E with an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 Wifi adapter. I want to miracast to my sony tv, using a sony bluray player. This should work (with my android phone the miracasting works) but it doesn't.

I am able to find the bluray player and connect to it in devices & printers. Altough when i try to project to it, it goes wrong. My screen on my computer goes black for one second ( that also happens whenever i plug in a monitor with a hdmi cable.

Altough when I want to try to project, that seems to break the connection between me and my TV. I found that there seems to be a generalproblem with my wifi adapter here:https://communities.intel.com/thread/31090?tstart=0.
However i don't know if this is correct? I have all the latest updates, my computer TV & bluray all support miracasting. Does anyone have a solution for this annoying problem?

Thanks in advance, Runey.

Answer
Sure.

I try it wired to sniff out if it's some other issue. If your TV is over WiFi you are going to learn why folk hate this setup. That is, your connection speed plummets as your laptop sends over WiFi, the router repeats it back to the TV and so on. We figure half the possible connection speed plus other issues will crop up.

The thing is, I find support for this to be MIA.

Well, my HDMI cable is very short and it's a lot handier if I don't need any cables attached. So i'd like this to work :/ i don't really mind about the speed being slower Happy and indeed, I don't find any support either... nothing seems to work to fix this what seems to be a minor bug...
thanks for the response!

So what about other WiFi USB cards?

I carry a spare in my PC doc bag. It looks like this one. I like this one because Windows (most versions) don't require a driver.

I may have to get another if it doesn't work on 8.

That's the option if all other things fail.

That is indeed an inexpensive option to fix it. The best thing would still be, fixing the bug in some way allowing me to miracast without getting disconnected. I have no clue how to fix the bug though.

Sorry

I didn't write it would fix it. It's something I carry to test with. Your Ethernet cable would have been your test but I can't see where you did that.

Okay, so I tried it with an ethernet cable, same error. This means that it's not my wifi adapter then?

Thanks, Runey

Yup. That's what it means.

Next up is to turn off the WiFi and try it wired.

Answer
I can't tell which OS and if this has WiDi.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracast covers why we don't expect it to work on Windows 7 or earlier. Having a WiFi link isn't enough either.

Before you ask why, it's all over the web but here I try to avoid to duplicate that. As Windows 7 may have updates that break WiDi, you get to check if Intel or Sony has issued WiDi updates.

Tried

So I turned off the Wi-fi, and tried it wired again, still didn't work. And as a note, i do have windows 8.1, and i get no exclamation marks next to my drivers so everything should be fine then right? I'll look for an update but last time I looked I didn't find anything.

I did notice now when i'm trying to connect that this "Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter #2" pops up for a while in my internet adaptor list. I don't know if this is good or what it means though.

Thanks, Runey

OK, but how did this get 8.1?
Dec 23, 2014 11:18PM PST

And if you or someone installed it, it's still as hard as it was about 2 decades ago to get the right mix of drivers. It took this many posts to find which OS. I don't mind as folk want privacy but here we have to know the details.

OK, we know it's not a WiFi issue. It could be just broke. You've never seen it work so there are exits.

If the laptop noted it had WiDi then you can task Sony with getting it to work.

Again, having WiFi and 8.1 does not mean WiDi will work.
