Vaio Laptop not connecting to Samsung LCD TV

Nov 24, 2009 3:33PM PST

I have a Sony Vaio laptop which is running Windows 7 professional, and a Samsung 37" LCD TV. I tried connecting the vaio laptop, via VGA to the tv but the tv isn't displaying "PC" under input. It seems to do something with my laptop because it makes a noise and it goes to display my background without icons or toolbar. If I ctrl+alt+delete my laptop screen turns black. With this problem I can't run the Intel TV Wizard or change my display settings in the control panel. Right clicking seems to make the laptop screen display its background only. I did download the latest driver from Intel, the Intel GMA X3100 driver.

I have a Dell laptop with same video card, ram, and cpu, but it works flawlessly when I connect it to the tv. I'm not sure what is wrong with my Sony laptop.

Sounds like a warranty issue.

It's not the TV and since Windows 7 just rolled out the new laptop has a warranty and the laptop has a flaw. Call it in before you are stuck with the issue.

Been over a year
Nov 24, 2009 11:08PM PST

I had this laptop for a while now and just decided to connect it to the tv. It has been over a year since I bought it. I contacted Sony's support and they just blamed it on not having a driver out yet for Windows 7. The Vaio laptop has no trouble connecting to my LG monitor but I don't know why it has trouble connecting to the Samsung TV.

Details.

Those details matter. Since it is not covered by Sony you are left with one last idea from me. Go get the 3100 driver from Intel.com

Here's the one I'm thinking of -> " win7_1512754.exe Download

Ver:15.12.75.4.1930 Date:10/2/2009 Size:23255 (KB) Time @56Kbps:53.83 min
OS:Windows 7 Enterprise, 32-bit version*, Windows 7 Home Basic, 32-bit version*, Windows 7 Home Premium, 32-bit version*, Windows 7 Professional, 32-bit version*, Windows 7 Ultimate, 32-bit version*, Windows 7*, Windows 7, 32-bit*"

I read your post and see no detail about which version of 7 or what version you installed. Is it the October 2, 2009 version?

Already downloaded
Nov 24, 2009 11:34PM PST

It's Windows 7 Professional x86. I have already went to download the intel chipset driver dated 10/2/09 for the windows 7 32 bit. Installed it but I get an error message saying some of the features has been disabled for incompatibility.

The noise the it makes it just a beep. It's a normal noise. I'm wondering is there a way to stop my laptop from changing to my background when I right click while it's connected to the tv because when I do that, I can't do anything with the settings.

I didn't duplicate

Any advice about display settings as that is widely discussed. I find many don't know the display options of cloned desktop verses "extend my desktop" and the FnFkey that some laptops use.

I read your posts one more time and couldn't guess which setting you wanted.

Not that this will fix it but it takes time to learn all the possible dual vs. cloned settings.

Seems like extended
Nov 24, 2009 11:44PM PST

It seems to me that it makes the TV which isn't connecting to be the main display and my laptop is the extended display. That's why I think it my laptop just display the background picture.

The fn key doesn't do anything. I been pressing most of it and it doesn't do anything. I tried the windows key and p for projector and that doesn't seem to work either

And that is a clue.

"That's why I think it my laptop just display the background picture."

That is proper here. But that is MY CHOICE OF SETTINGS that I made the external display the primary so when I plug in the external the laptop display would have just the background and not the usual stuff.

Again this is all about learning about all the settings possible. Nothing seems terrible amiss yet. Just the usual getting to know the settings.
