USING WIRED PHONE LINES AND DSL

Aug 9, 2005 11:08AM PDT

We just got DSL and am using a 2 Wire Modem connected to one of our desktops computers. It has wireless capabilities but for the time being we want to connect our other desktop and laptop to the DSL using a phone cord. I have been told that I need a "PC PORT". Does anyone know what this is and where I can obtain it (CDW, Best Buy, Comp USA, etc.)? Also, what is the cost as compared to a wireless adapter or USB?

That phone cord is not phone cord but ethernet cable.

http://www.linksys.com while not your modem/router has primer material for you to catch up on ethernet networking.

Ethernet

As perviously mentioned, you are referring to an ethernet cable. Firstly, check the back of your pc and verify that you have an ethernet network card (NIC) installed. this will be a lone (female) jack that looks simular to a standard phone jack - but slightly bigger (ethernet has extra pins).

If the preferred ethernet NIC is available on your PC, I beleieve that all 2wire modems also support a USB connection. this can also be purchased at the usual pc centers..
