When you click, (or double click), the IE icon on your Desktop, nothing happens at all?
Try this. Goto Start > All programs > Accessories > System Tools, then find and click the "Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)" link.
Does IE open now? If so, this is IE's "Safe Mode" which opens with all add-ons and 3rd party extensions disabled.
This allows you to investigate IE's Add-ons, (Tools > Manage Add-ons), and disable them all to test the full version of IE again.
Try that.

After a recent bout with adware and virus cleaning, my computer no longer recognizes Internet Explorer.
I have a Dell something or other (less than a year old), have Windows XP installed, use Verizon broadband and the "modem" works fine on the back bedroom computer. I brought the computer into the shop and was able to open IE via the service we have here (not really sure what that is but something corporate).
Not particularly a computer afficianado but I thought I'd try and see if there was a simple solution.
Thanks.
