I have heard the same and did have problems dual-booting WinXP with earlier (non-Ubuntu) Linux distros. However, both WinXP and Ubuntu "Dapper Drake" work well separately on my two SATA drives on this machine, but Ubuntu can not access the WinXP drive files. There were similar problems with my now favorite Puppy Linux, but the latest 2.01 version has solved the problems.

I was planning on installing Ubuntu on my dell inspiron 1100. It doesn't have a SATA hard drive, but in a few months I was planning on getting a new laptop (probably an E1705 Dell) which does have a SATA HD. I was probably going to put linux on that laptop as well, and I wanted to get used to that distrobution of linux first on my 1100 first. But I heard that Ubuntu usually has problems with working on SATA HD's? Is that true? If there really is any problem, then are there any other distros that can support SATA HDs?
