using the system file check

How can I use the SFC utility with an XP system that has been upgraded to SP3 and IE8? Now when I try to use it, I am told to insert my disk, and then I am told that it is the wrong disk. I have used the utility before, and within the past week, after IE8 was upgraded with latest security patch, I started having problems getting on line. I tried SFC just to check my installation files, and found out that I couldn't. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

This happened to me

And it was my own fault. I had 'cleaned up' after the SP3 install and removed some temp files so the files SFC checks against were gone. To fix it I had to download the full size SP3 and run it one more time.

Hope this helps.

Still no joy after replacing the SP3 file. Will post back if I get any kind of solution.
