Question

Using my Samsung UE40B7020W Tv to view/stream iPlayer app

I am in the UK
I have just bought a Samsung Link stick and have used it to connect my Samsung UE40B7020W wirelessly to my home network. I can use the existing widgets but would like more: for example the bbc iPlayer app. I have been told by Samsung support that these cannot be added. Is this true? If so, how can I connect my MacBook and stream from it to the TV wirelessly? I have used a cable but would prefer not to. Please use non technical language to reply if possible Blush

.....because that answer seems to be "no luck" without spending yet more on that "third party hardware". Many thanks for your response!

No you can do this. Basically you run some DNLA server software on your Mac, the TV will spot it and allow you to play the content. Sorry I'm not an Apple user so I can't help you with the software, but if you look on the Wikipedia page for DNLA there's a list of software servers. There's also a thread on here about DNLA servers for Linux that may help.

A general bit of advice on "streaming" from computers is to NOT use WiFi! Wired links are much preferred, because WiFi can be so variable in its speed. With a wired link you know exactly what you're going to get. It may work well, but if you get stuttering and pauses then I'd be looking at the wifi as a possible cause.

Re: Iplayer, have a look at getting one of the new internet tv boxes that are coming out, LG has one, Samsung too maybe. Also some blueray players include the same functionality.

I'll certainly look up about the software and will definitely reconsider tv boxes
