Using MP3 players with Windows98,First Edition

Dec 28, 2004 11:35AM PST

I plan to buy an MP3 player with 40GB. They all say Win98 Second Edition is required. Is there a way for me to use one of these MP3 players with my Win98,First Edition PC??

Some work in spite of this.

But you can't complain if it doesn't.

You did have a few years to find/obtain a Windows 98SE upgrade. Why the delay?

Which ones?

Which players are most likely to be compatible w/Win98, first edition?

The reason for not upgrading, is that there was never a "need" until now. So, where does one get an upgrade to SE now?

Still out there ...

On Ebay.

As to which ones, no one has a list.

No USB

The reason the players won't work is because Win98 didn't have USB support until SE. Whether there was a way to use USB with 1stEd, I don't know. I'd just head down to Frys / BestBuy / PC Club / whatever and drop the 99 bucks on an XP upgrade.
