Question

Using MacBook to create Bootable USB for Windows

Apr 15, 2018 6:47PM PDT

I've forgotten the password to an old laptop and I just want to get all of my images and videos off of it and move it to my current laptop. My old one was an HP running on Windows 7. I've been in contact with Microsoft and they've told me if I make a bootable USB I'll be able to reinstall Windows 7 while maintaining all of my data on the laptop to create a new password. However, they're unable to tell me how to make a bootable USB on a MacBook and I can't find anywhere that will tell me how to do it for Windows 7. I have already downloaded the ISO.

If anyone can help me or provide a better solution, that would be amazing.

You are being lead to the slaughter.

You've been given bad advice. You save your files BEFORE you repair or install the OS. I guess this may be where you learn firsthand this lesson if you plow ahead.

Windows 7 never came on USB either. Just take the ISO and make the usual DVD. Apples already can do that so do it the right way AFTER your files are safe.

Can you boot up some linux live dvd/usb?

If so you might be able to copy out the files you want then take them to the other machine and copy them in.

Note..... I said copy not move.

1. Insert Windows CD into tray, if no CD then put .ISO into USB stick
2. Plug in USB stick
3. Run Windows setup
4. Install it on the USB

Doesn't Windows 7 have a repair option at start up?
