Using DVD-R with internal memory as DVR?

by csiagerard / January 29, 2009 1:09 AM PST

So, looking around we seem to all have noticed that other then DishNetwork's no subscription DVR there are not a lot of choices (and CNET's reviews of that DishNetwork one are not promising).

So, what about a DVD-R that has internal memory and a digital tuner?

Would this be a decent alternative? If so, any thoughts on a reasonably priced one that is also good?

Remember one thing,

digital tuner alone is not going to do it unless you are talking about just recording over-the-air signals. You want dishnetwork's signal then you got to pay.

So, yeah, we're just looking to save the stuff from the antenna. Will the internal memory of the DVD-R give us a DVR type of experience then? And if so, what is a good machine for this?
