I have a Palm Zire 72, and I know that some others whom I work around have Palm PDA devices as well - some are Bluetooth compatible. Is there a way to text message PDA to PDA using Bluetooth ? There is an event in a large arena coming up in the near future which will make this capability very handy for everybody who will be involved in making things go smoothly, and not everybody will be in line - of -sight, thus using infrared beaming a bit impractical. Also, running cable in order to HotSync all of the PDA's via USB will not be practical either. We would like to keep any radio communication ( e.g., walkie - talkie ) for use by security personnel only, so other kinds of communication between staff members would help out greatly - cell phones will not be practical for us, either, as we will be sending data back to a central location at the event and the information must be downloaded into a computer at the event so that results from several sites at the event can be indexed, tabulated, and verified, then decisions based on the data can be properly made. Thanks.

I read the article from Palm that was in the link that you posted - thanks, by the way, - but there was one fly in the ointment - Bluechat software is not included with my particular Palm handheld ( Zire 72 ) and it looks like I am back to square one on this. If the Bluechat software ins absolutely necessary in order to accomplish what I want to do, then I am back to the beginning, but if there is another way to do this, then let me know. The event that I will be involved with will have a lot of background noise associated with it, thus making cell phones untenable - and walkie -talkies will be used only by the security personnel - therein lies the headache. I wonder if Palm has that software for download - if not, then all other ideas that you might have will be welcome.
I have a collection of Palms (I write software for such) but haven't tried this on the 72 since it's not a model we can use. I have the T2, T|X (others) so I could try it on those 2.
