Hi I am trying to make a legal template (a money lending
contract) using ASK and REF fields in MS Word 2003. The fields to be repeated are things like "Name of borrower," "name of
lender," "amount of loan in numbers," "amount of loan in
words," "date of closing," etc. Here is what I have done so
far (without great effect) to try and make this happen.
I open one of my documents, save it as a document template,
and then open this document template so that I am working on
a template. The NAME OF THE BORROWER is the first field
under question and appears twice in this document. In the
first place it appears I highlight the words NAME OF THE
BORROWER, click insert: field. I choose Mail Merge, and
then ASK. In the Prompt I put: Enter the name of the
borrower. In the bookmark name I put: NAME OF BORROWER. I
click ok. In the second place where NAME OF BORROWER
appears I highlight these words, click insert: field. I
choose Links and References and then REF, but the bookmark
name doesn't show up! If I manually enter NAME OF BORROWER
in the Field Codes, is displays in the document but never
prompts the command "Enter the name of the borrower." This
seems like a fairly simple task but I cannot get it to work.
To this end, it also seems like I cannot get FILLIN fields
to work as well. The text merely gets displayed in the
document without actually prompting the user. Am I missing
something basic that is inhibiting the functionality of the
field codes? Any help would be hugely appreciated. Many
thanks,
