Question

Using Altech Lansing headset with Macbook 07 via Google Voic

Jul 31, 2011 7:45AM PDT

I have a 2007 Macbook and I am trying to use an Altech Lansing Headset to make phone calls via Google Voice. The only problem is that it appears that the integrated microphone on the screen still picks up all the background noise. So, the person on the other line hears all the background noise. Can anyone tell me how to eliminate the background noise when using one of the devices to make calls via Skype or Google Voice?

Didn't work!!

I was hoping that it would work but unfortunately it did not. The Headset has to RCA plugs. One for the microphone and the other for the headset. I could hear the person that I am calling but they cannot hear me. Any other suggestions?

It's a small pair of RCA jacks.

That's not good.

Let's get the MODEL NUMBER of this thing.

There are no RCA ports on the 2007 Macbook.

Model number

I will have to get the model number during lunch. It's the black MacBook. For example, if I want to play the music from itunes on my Mac through my home system, I use an RCA cord that I bought from Best Buy. I plug the single RCA jack into the side of my Mac and plug the two other RCA jacks into my receiver. The only difference here is that the headset has two what appear to be mini rca jacks. I plug one into the mic input and the input right next to it. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

Sorry but we have to be precise about this.

There are mini jacks and there are RCA jacks. I've yet to see any connector documented as a mini RCA jack. I know folk might name a mini such but if they do, then we will not know what it is.

As to the MODEL NUMBER, if I was to check on this I'd like to find the make and model number of the headset since that's what's unknown.

Bob,
I really appreciate the help from the two of you. The make and model of the headset is an Altec Lansing AHS12. It looks just like the AHS322 which is the link that I posted. The MacBook is a model 2.1. That is the info that I found when I looked at the system profiler after I did About my Mac.

Those are mini jacks.

The green one is for the speaker and the red/pink one is the mic.

I can't see it but I think I own a similar unit and it had a MUTE switch so try it both ways and on the usual Mac you have to tell it (sometimes) to use the Mic input.

The audio-in port should be the left headphone-like port on the left side of
the MacBook. It has an icon that looks like a circle with two triangles
coming in at either side.

Update

That is correct. That is how I used it. One is a headphone-like port and the other with those triangles. That is where I put the mini jack that has the microphone icon. I went into system preferences and made the changes under the sound option. The person couldn't hear me.

Then it sounds defective or incompatible.

What other microphones are there to try?

And if all fail, call and arrange for some guru at the counter to check it out for you.

Just plug them into a USB ports, configure the Sound preference panel and away you go.
