Most folk then complain about the lag when we use a laptop or such as TERMINAL to a PC.
The good news here is it's free to setup. I use one of the VNC systems to do this. There are plenty of tutorials so I will end here with a link about VNC.

VNC works in and across Windows, Chrome, Android and more.
I'm a photographer who started doing video work and I need a much more powerful computer so I don't waste my time waiting for images and videos to process.
I really like sitting around on the couch doing work on a laptop- I don't want to have to sit in a chair in my office on a desktop.
I would like to get a bad *** desktop that's super fast instead of spending double the amount on a laptop that won't even be as powerful - but remote in to the desktop with my chrome book or laptop.
Is this practical? Can I stay connected by remote-in or am I going to have to go back and forth constantly between the PC and chromebook/old laptop.
To clarify; I am looking for a way to use my current crappy laptop or my chromebook as a remote monitor/keyboard/mouse to my super fast desktop.
