Question

User Profile Service failed for one user

Apr 19, 2015 9:07AM PDT

I have an HP Pavilion running Windows 7. It has 3 user accounts all of which were logging in well until recently. Now the logon for one account fails although its password is accepted. The logon screen gives the message
"The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded"

I created an admin account with the same result. The user profile failed to load.Moving on to try Grif's scan

Just in case. Any COMODO security?

Remember I can't guess what's different about this PC. But just read a Comodo security issue that seems to implicate Comodo software.

I have run through all of Grif's scans listed on that link. Nothing has changed except the removal of nearly 600 cookies and two adware items. The logon still fails to load the user profile for the one user and for a newly created user.

Unless there are more clues.

Some security systems do this but I don't have a good list of what's on this PC or how it came to be in such a state.

Try ... SFC ... (how to use is on the web.

But before that, boot SAFE MODE and try creating a new account while in Safe Mode then logging in that new account.

I tried creating an account in safe mode but that didn't work either. After reading some of the instructions for SFC I have decided to format the hard drive and reinstall Windows 7. You have been patient and helpful but unfortunately I feel I must take another approach.

Answer
Yes. Microsoft's solution is well,

Abandon that user account and copy it over.

Really? This issue has been kicking around from pre-2000.
