Classifieds are really useful and helpful to improve SEO or is it total waste of time, do any one have any idea?

This is best asked on SEO Forums. The problem that no one tells you is Google changes the rules without notice.

That means that anyone that claims "this is true" is not telling you the whole story.

In general. As only Google holds the key to what makes good SEO and changes it from time to time my view is you should hit the usual SEO forums knowing that all is true and false at the same time.

That is, SEO is fine and all but what matters more is your product and presentation. Is it something that folk find that want? Or is it just another classified web page on the web.

Also the following ->
Yelp in a recent interview I can't find noted that today they feel Google would squash them as a competitor.

Google has its own classifieds so you are going to be pitted against Yelp but also Google itself. Do you understand the fight you have entered?
