Oct 23, 2014 12:52PM PDT

Hi guys,

I'm using Windows 8.1 and really want to try Windows 10 Preview. However, I don't like virtual machine or add one more partition. The only thing that I'm wondering is may I use Win8.1 VGA driver for Win10? I'm using laptop Asus N56vz with nVidia GT650m

Thanks

your main machine. MS warns you not to do that. It's buggy and missing features from what will be the released version. Also you will probably have to do a full install to go to the released version.

Answer
Virtualize it

Then you won't need to worry at this time about video driver files for it, the virtualization will interface that with the host for you. It would be dangerous, even irresponsible to try and install this to it's own partition yet, unless you have that partition set for where the virtual drive will be placed. Consider, even if windows 10 is installed to a free partition, outside of virtual machine it will take over your boot process, and then later after the evaluation period is over, your choice is to buy w10 and install it, leave the evaluation copy if it's even functional anymore after a certain date, or stuck trying to restore your windows 8 boot process.

I couldn't find if the RTM version is expected to update from the evaluation version.
